Magento 2 Lead Developer UK
I am Zack Husain, Head of Development at Floor Giants in Derby. Since March 2025 I have run the small development team behind three Magento stores: Floor Giants, UK Discount Flooring and Evergreen, which is the trade side of the business. Two of the stores are on Magento 2.4.7 and PHP 8.2 and the third is on 2.4.8 and PHP 8.3.
The lead developer job in my team sits with me. I set the technical direction, plan the releases, review the pull requests and decide what goes to production. The developers build the features and the integrations. Since I started we have relaunched one store on a custom theme and launched another from scratch, and I rebuilt the security patch process so a patch reaches production in under an hour.
Alongside the day job I take a small amount of advisory work. Usually that is a second opinion on a roadmap or a look at a release process that keeps slipping. I read the setup, say what I would change first and, if it helps, work with your lead or agency while they do it. I do not take full time contract roles.
I am based in the UK and I already work with my own team remotely, so remote advisory work is fine.
Technical direction in practice
My architecture and system design approach starts with ownership, system boundaries and failure handling. The Magento relaunch case study shows how that connects to staged releases, rollback planning and the team’s delivery work. I am also leading our early-stage Nuxt storefront rebuild.

What does a Magento 2 lead developer do in your team?

Do you still write code?
Yes. Reviews, spikes and the awkward fixes nobody else has time for. The team ships the features.
Can you work with an existing in-house team or agency?
Yes. That is most of the day job: running a team, setting priorities with the business and holding partners to the agreed scope. Advisory work follows the same pattern.
Are you UK based and available remotely?
Yes. I am based in Derby and already work remotely with my own team, so remote advisory work with UK or international ecommerce teams is fine.
